An Ordinary Person

Wolfgang Close (Almost) Encounters Part II | February 17, 2009

marchgigposterAbout a week ago, on a whim, I sent seven questions to Wolfgang by email. To my surprise they answered back with some good responses. They didn’t touch on all of my questions but were gracious enough to provide answers to the ones that dealt with the March 19 Two Sides Live concert, the Villains album and deciding to go indie, and what the future holds for the band.

Without further ado here is a little Q&A with Wolfgang!

Q: Are you doing special arrangements of your songs for acoustic a la the Acoustica album for the March 19 Two Sides Live concert? Which songs, especially from the new album, are you doing new arrangements for? What can fans expect?

MANUEL: Yup we’ve worked on some new arrangements for the show. The nature of the instrument just calls for it. As to which songs, let’s just keep that as a surprise.

Q: How does it feel to release a brand new album as Wolfgang? How does it feel to release it as an indie album rather than through a major label?

BASTI: It feels great. We weren’t even planning on doing an album but once I heard Manuels riffs it started the ball rolling. I automatically said wait a minute there is something here that needs to be completed by us these riffs are too good to go to Razorback haha!

MANUEL: I was active just enough to scratch the itch. It feels great to have an album out again. I also really like the fact that we did this without a record label

BASTI: Again it is a great feeling because now the ball is in our court, we get to make decisions about our music and we get to see the outcome of those decisions not some guy in an office somewhere who couldn’t give two shits about any of it.

Q: You are playing an overseas gig in Singapore. Any chance you guys will fly to North America and other countries for a gig or two overseas?

MANUEL : I don’t see why not as long as we’re invited and it works out for everyone’s schedule.

Q: Any chance you guys will record the Two Sides Live show and release it as an album?

BASTI: Yes we are trying to get as much on record as possible.  These days I think the prevailing rule is RECORD EVERYTHING because technology has made it so easy to do.

Q: After the concert — what can we expect from Wolfgang for the foreseeable future?

BASTI: We have a couple of ideas on the shelf which could be brought out. One is something involving Wurm and another is a concept album that has been bouncing in my head for a time. Maybe another epic song or two. There is much in the works so the future should be pretty exciting.

So there you have it folks! Some good info straight from Wolfgang. They are setting up to record the Two Sides Live concert which makes a live album and DVD a strong possibility. They haven’t ruled out a visit to North America and other countries. They are liking the decision to go indie with Villains album. And Basti even hints on the direction of future projects.

They didn’t answer all my questions which indicates they are keeping some info under wraps for now. But hey, that’s fine by me. I don’t mind learning new info as the band makes them available. Perhaps if they like how this little Q&A turned out I’d love to do a more in-depth interview with them.

If you are planning on going to Two Sides Live ticket info is available at the Wolfgang Multiply site.
